The assignment

Document a rare harbor visit with the clarity of a record—and the feeling of cinema.

The Portuguese Navy's tall ship Sagres is built to command attention. The challenge was to translate that scale into a complete visual story: its approach, its relationship to New Bedford's working waterfront, and the transformation that happened after sunset.

This self-initiated field project was captured across multiple sessions, allowing weather, light, vessel movement, and harbor context to shape the final narrative.

01 — First contact

Establish the vessel.
Then establish the place.

As daylight falls, the work shifts from documenting transit to revealing presence: layers of rigging, the rhythm of signal flags, harbor infrastructure, and the first glow of deck lighting.
